Garmin Approach G3
The Garmin Approach G3 provides you with an affordable way to improve your scores by letting you accurately track your targets to reach the hole. All you have to do is turn on the device and manually choose the course you’re on then wait for the course map to appear on the screen.
The Approach G3, like the Garmin Approach G5 has one of the most comprehensive course databases in the industry, covering some 17,000 courses in the US and Canada (overseas courses are not included in this particular device). And Garmin is regularly updating its database as new course maps become available.
The Garmin Approach G3 offers users two different views: a “hole” view that provides an overhead illustration of the hole and automatically zooms in as the user gets closer to the green; and a “green” view that shows the shape of the green and the user can touch the screen to indicate the position of the flag.
The Tree Line Coverage feature (available for most course maps) shows trees lining your fairways so that you can adjust your shots for greater accuracy.
The Approach G3 also has a solid feature set, which can be easily accessed using a simple interface, including:
• Shot tracking. Shots can easily be tracked using a simple interface on the touchscreen, and will continue tracking the shot even when the user leaves the current screen to use another feature and then returns.
• Easy score and statistic tracking. The Garmin Approach G3 can track up to four players’ scores easily using the digital scorecard. The user can also edit the par listed for a particular hole.
• Sunlight-readable display. The bright full-color screen can easily be read even in bright sunlight.
• Auto-advance. The Approach G3 lets you choose whether the device will automatically advance to the next hole or allow the user to advance it manually.

The retail price of $203.52 puts the Garmin Approach G3 on the lower end of similar gps devices and puts it about the same price range as the Callaway uPro Golf GPS.
Once you take into account that the G3 has no fees to access Garmin’s course database you start to see the value that you get with the Garmin Approach G3.
